Spill Session: "SNOWY ASPENS"
Step into the quiet beauty of winter -
but, with a colorful twist!
Spill Sessions are Anastasia’s shorter, focused painting lessons that guide you through one composition at a time. This Spill Session (and many more!) is also included inside of Spill Some Color membership.

In this painting tutorial, we explore the elegant rhythm of aspen trunks standing tall against a snowy landscape. Inspired by late-day light in the colder months, this piece balances crisp whites, cool tones, and unexpected color woven into the snow and sky.
This is not a cold gray winter scene - it's a luminous one!
Inside "Snowy Aspens" course, you’ll move through the painting in three clear, manageable parts.
First, you’ll sketch the composition in a way that feels natural and balanced - learning how to space the aspens so they feel layered rather than stiff or evenly “striped.” Then, you’ll build the snowy atmosphere and establish depth using value shifts and subtle color temperature changes. Finally, you’ll refine the trunks, shadows, and surface texture to create that glowing winter contrast that makes the scene feel alive!

Throughout the lesson, you’ll learn how to
Create depth in a limited winter palette
Keep snow interesting using color variation (not just white!)
Balance cool tones with warmth for visual energy
Use contrast to make white tree trunks stand out without looking harsh
Build a composition that feels dimensional
By the end of this course, you’ll create a unique winter landscape,
infused with your color voice!
Snowy Aspens is taught in three focused video lessons, and is yours to watch at your own pace. Let’s paint winter in a way that feels anything but dull!

Acrylic paint, canvas, brushes, a sketching tool, and an optional acrylic paint medium. (also there are miscellaneous items such as water cup, paper towels, etc). In this lesson, I work on a 12"x12" canvas. (or approximately 30x30 cm). You are welcome to use a slightly larger or smaller canvas for your painting, such as 10"x10", 14"x14", etc.
I demonstrate on a square canvas, but you can absolutely adapt your composition to a rectangular format if you prefer that instead.
