FAQs:

How will I know when live sessions are being held?

Next live session date will be posted in Spill Sessions area of your membership portal (together with a Zoom link).

You will also get an email reminder, and see the update in our Facebook group / Community.

Most of our live lessons are held on Saturday or Sunday mornings (usually 11:30 am Central Time / Chicago), with occasional ones taking place on a weekday evening.

After a Spill Session occurs, and the painting is completed, its lesson recording gets posted in the Spill Sessions Vault.

I'm in a different time zone. Will it affect my live session participation?

You can join live from anywhere - just be sure to account for the time difference. All the times in the schedule will be listed in Central (Chicago, USA) time. And yes, time zones can be tricky, especially with a creative community that’s scattered across the globe! That’s why every live session will be recorded and uploaded to your membership area, so you can watch (or rewatch!) whenever it works best for you. Additionally, we’ll continue gathering feedback as we go, to find session times that work for the majority.

Does Spill Some Color offer portrait painting lessons?

Not at this time. SSC doesn’t include any portrait painting lessons. Our focus is on expressive landscapes, trees, and nature-inspired scenes. We also welcome occasional (upcoming) guest appearances from insects, birds, or even a building or two.

Does Spill Some Color offer art business courses?

SSC is all about learning the process of expressive painting (and the mindset that supports it!). It does not offer art business courses. But we never discourage conversations around this subject! Inside of our community, you’re more than welcome to ask questions, swap tips, and get support around the topic of selling your art.

What materials will I need?

Your list of materials / supplies is universal, meaning it will apply to all the classes in the membership (no need to acquire different sets of paint for each course). A comprehensive materials list is provided inside, but here is a brief summary:

  • Canvas sheets or stretched canvas (painting panels work too).

  • Brushes: Please have on hand at least 3-4 oil/acrylic brushes of different sizes (avoid softer watercolor brushes).

  • Palette: these days, Sta-Wet palette (for keeping your acrylics moist) is my personal favorite, but any type of palette will work - paper, glass, plastic, etc.

  • 10 MAIN paint colors + 5-6 OPTIONAL colors (optional colors can be mixed, but buying them saves palette time).

  • Miscellaneous helpful studio items, such as: paper towels, water cups, pencil or charcoal for sketching, apron, easel (if you like using one), etc.

Am I required to have Facebook to participate?

Nope - you don’t need Facebook to be a Spill Some Color member. Your membership will give you full access to the course library, monthly live Zoom painting sessions, local SSC community, and regular email updates with everything you need to stay in the loop.

Spill Some Color has 2 private community areas - a local one, and a Facebook group.

The local SSC community is found within your membership dashboard. It has a feed of all of my periodic updates (chats about supplies, processes, etc).

Facebook SSC Group has the same updates, but is be more active. That’s where members usually share their painting progress, ask questions, swap encouragement, and celebrate both the messy middle and the breakthroughs. It’s a great place to feel connected and inspired - but totally optional.

What if I can't keep up?

You’re not supposed to keep up with anyone but yourself. Seriously. This membership is designed to support you at your pace - whether that means painting a little every day or dipping in once a week (or even once a month). There’s no pressure, no race, and no falling behind.

Everyone shows up to this creative journey with a different rhythm. The real magic comes from showing up consistently in your own way - even small progress adds up beautifully over time.

What if SSC is not for me? Can I cancel?

Absolutely. By joining Spill Some Color and showing up for the lessons and your own practice, you will grow as an expressive acrylic painter - no doubt about it. But if you find the membership isn’t the right fit, you can cancel anytime.

To cancel your membership, just send an email to paint@amakart.com before your next billing date, and you won’t be charged for the upcoming month. No extra hoops to jump through.

When will my credit card be charged?

Your card will be charged right away for your first month. After that, it will be billed automatically on the same date each month.
